Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory managed for the U.S. Department of Energy by UT-Battelle, LLC. Scientists and engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions that strengthen the nation's leadership in key areas of science; increase the availability of clean, abundant energy; restore and protect the environment; and contribute to national security.

Our organization houses the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF), home to America’s most powerful supercomputer, Summit. In 2018, ORNL delivered Summit, the next leap in leadership-class computing systems for open science. With Summit we will be able to address, with greater complexity and higher fidelity, questions concerning who we are, our place on earth, and in our universe.

Our laboratory contains the institutional knowledge to transform basic science into cutting-edge energy and security applications critical to national interest. We are committed to research and development in the data sciences, including the modeling, simulation, and analysis of rapidly growing data sources and is is a premier source for high-performance and quantum computing, applied mathematics, and artificial intelligence research.
